Shop Walk Wednesday 29th July 10 am

Thornbury for Artists – part of the Thornbury Art Club event at the Methodist Hall in Castle Court, Thornbury

This is a very short walk (a bit less than a kilometre). It should take less than an hour unless people in the shops etc. turn out to be very chatty. 1 venue known to be inaccessible.

Our first stop will be Castle Crafts, where we might look at the distinction between art and craft. We cross over to T and J Owen, where we might think about flower arranging and flower pictures.

Next we will make our way to the St Mary Centre, where two Charity Shops are good sources of cheap frames. The Lions’ Bookshop has a section for art books and another for crafts.

James at Celebration Fairs has views on artists co-operatives and has art and craft on show. Next, Honey at the Beehive Gallery has work on show and a good selection of framing materials. Rich Edwards at Surroundings is also an expert framer and there are a few pictures left in the shop from his successful show in Nailsworth. He also has some work in the Armstrong, which is a potential exhibition space.

Around the corner, in the High Street is Origin Tattoo and Aesthetics, where artists work on unforgiving surfaces. A new gallery is to open at no 55 shortly. Further on is Rosie and Rex where the work of designers is for sale, and there are interesting images on the windows, which have also inspired her neighbours.

Around the corner, is a Mediaeval Street that used to house artists’ workshops.

Next there are three shops that sell artists’ materials, and, as it is Wednesday, there is an opportunity to visit the Thornbury Quilts in the Town Hall.

Tesoro means treasure, I believe, and there are more pictures hanging on the walls there than any other place in Thornbury (probably.)

From there – back to the Methodist hall.
