Slow Ways on the Buses

The Slow Ways Concept is making progress. The idea that footpaths joining towns and villages should be promoted brings alive Nicholas Crane’s idea of the slow green web, which is the remnant reminder of the ancient forest wilderness.

The problem with these linear routes is that they don’t the Ramblers’ paradigm of a circular route through the countryside accessed by car.

Instead, we need to use public transport to join the ends of the Slow Ways.

This fits well with the idea of routes “On the Buses” that can be found on the Thornbury Wayfinders Website.

From Thornbury there developed Slow Ways connecting Thornbury to Bradley Stoke via the T1 and routes to Berkeley and Dursley via the 62 and the 60. In fact, there are three interesting routes from Berkeley – and the Bradley Stoke Slow Way has a shorter version from Almondsbury and and a longer version via Aztec West and Cattybrook brick works.

The introduction to a regular fixed timetable minibus route, the T2C will reopen routes to Yate, Rangeworth and villages on the route to Cribbs.

However, none of these will work unless money is invested in keeping the Slow Ways open.
