Signs of Spring

One of the most iconic walks in the Step into Spring Festival was delivered by Steve England and sponsored by South Glos Council. I call it iconic because it followed the Streamside Path, one of the Jewels in Thornbury’s Crown, which will soon be improved by another South Glos project.

Steve started in the Rock Street car park and took his eager crew down Crispin Lane, where he found something of interest opposite the old blacksmith’s shop.

Later, on the Streamside Walk proper, Steve found the evidence of torrential fresh water in the rocks beside the steam.

Later, by the Scout hut, the stream has gouged a deep little gully, where the stream is threatening to undermine the path.

Past Manorbrook School, the walk broadens out.

Around the corner, this stream joins the Morton Mill Stream and you can enjoy the sounds of waterfalls next to the former Morton Mill that is now transformed into housing.

If you follow in Steve’s footsteps, you might well leave time to visit the Anchor Inn on the other side of the mill. However, Steve had a tighter schedule and crossed the Gloucester Road to find the metalled path that leads past the One Stop Shop on the way back to the Rock Street car park.
