Terminalis

Sunday 23rd February is the Festival of Terminalis, dedicated to Terminus the God of Boundaries. Next year we will probably organise walks based on the theme of Beating the Boundaries; but we don’t have time to organise that for this year. Nevertheless, as this year’s theme is Hope, it has been suggested that this would be an auspicious time to launch Thornbury as a Walkers are Welcome town.

As it happens, a walk around the Biodiversity Ring has already been organised with Southwold Ramblers on Saturday 22nd February from the Leisure Centre – leaving at 10-15 am. As this follows the outer edge of the built up area, that is also auspicious. I have heard that Radio Thornbury are also doing a sponsored walk on that day. And Walkers are also Welcome at the Park Run on the Mundy playing fields at 9 in the morning.

If that were not enough, Severnside Ramblers have spontaneously decided to do a Thornbury Heritage Walk on Friday 21st February starting at 10-15 from the Rock Street pedestrian crossing.

It looked as if a mini-walking festivalette was forming itself in Thornbury, so when I saw that the U3A walking group needed a leader for a B group walk on Thursday 20th February, I thought it would be auspicious to give it a bit of a nudge by volunteering to lead a bus walk, involving catching the number 60 bus from Rock Street at 9-50 to Falfield and walking back cross country. This offer was accepted. Thornbury Running Club also have a walking section when they meet at 7pm at the Leisure Centre.

So there is a lot going on that week in Thornbury – and I haven’t even mentioned the Walking Well group, that starts at 10 am from outside the Multiple Sclerosis Charity Shop in the St Mary Centre.

It looks like it’s happening folks!
