Thornbury Welcomes Walkers

We are celebrating our success in getting Thornbury fully accredited as a Walkers are Welcome town.  As a Walkers are Welcome town (WaW) we will strive to make paths accessible for walkers, runners and wheelers.  We plan to

  1. work to clear paths by inspecting them, clearing with consent and reporting bigger problems to the Highways Authority.
  2. find walking routes and encourage people to use them by waymarking, putting routes here on our website and produce leaflets.
  3. work with partners to create events that will lead people out into our beautiful countryside.

W a W is a national movement and has been shown to bring economic benefits to the towns involved.  Other towns in our area who are part of this are Dursley, Keynsham and Chepstow. We will be linking with them when we have our own Walking festival.

In the meantime, we hope to launch in early spring and we will be starting by engaging with Southwold Ramblers and Sustainable Thornbury on 22nd February to walk the Biodiversity Ring.
